Good Citizens and Uluu partner to create seaweed sunglasses

Uluu and Good Citizens have joined forces to develop 'made with Uluu' sunglasses, pushing the boundaries of materials innovation.

The partnership pairs Good Citizens’ award-winning design with Uluu's high-performance materials made from farmed seaweed.

It brings together bold style and next-generation biomaterials, united by a shared mission to untrash the planet.

The prototype sunglasses were manufactured by the Good Citizens team in Sydney using Uluu pellets.

Good Citizens co-founder and chief executive Nik Robinson said the seaweed sunglasses was the smoothest trial of any polymer the company had ever tested.

“When the guys at Uluu arrived with pellets of seaweed plastic to make our sunglass frames, we were intrigued to say the least," he said.

“The result was ridiculously brilliant. The frames rolled off the production line with ease, and the touch and feel of the end product was superb.

"It's very exciting times ahead, for not just the Uluu team but the planet."

The frames are made from Uluu's PHA, a natural material that acts like plastic but breaks down at the end of its life.

Uluu co-founder and co-CEO Dr Julia Reisser said the company was excited to work with Good Citizens, which was founded in 2018 to invent a way to turn one single-use bottle into a pair of 100% recycled and ethical sunglass frames.

"We're thrilled to partner with Good Citizens and support them in creating the world's most sustainable sunglasses," she said.
