Uluu has been selected as one of the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers for 2026, joining a global community of companies recognised for cutting-edge technologies with the potential to improve the world.
The Technology Pioneers program brings together entrepreneurs from around the world who are shaping industries and addressing major global challenges.
It comes at a pivotal moment in Uluu’s scale up, as the company moves beyond technical validation of its seaweed-based materials and into larger customer pilots, expanded production and early commercial supply.
“Being selected as a Technology Pioneer is a powerful endorsement of the work our team,” said Uluu co-founder and co-CEO Dr Julia Reisser.
“We have always believed that replacing fossil plastics requires more than a better material. It requires a new system — one that is regenerative, scalable and designed to work with nature rather than against it.”
Uluu uses farmed seaweed to produce a natural material called PHA, which performs like plastic while being microplastic-free and biodegradable at the end of its life.
“As we scale, our focus is on demonstrating that sustainable materials can meet the performance, manufacturing and commercial requirements of global brands,” said Uluu co-founder and co-CEO Michael Kingsbury.
“Joining the Technology Pioneers community gives us a platform to contribute to bigger conversations about the future of materials, biomanufacturing and climate-positive industry.”
